Filatura Di Crosa Superior Yarn makes Amazing Garments that are Soft and Cuddly

Let me introduce you (or reintroduce you) to another of my favorite yarns.

Filatura Di Crosa Superior yarn is a luscious blend of 70% Cashmere and 30% Schappe Silk - this yarn is irrestible when touched! Superior yarn knits to a gauge of 6 sts = 1 inches on a recommended US #4 (3.5 mm) needle, although many garments are knit loosely using this yarn and have a beautiful drape and handle to the finished item.   Recommended care for garments made with this yarn is to hand wash and lay flat to dry.    Each skein weights 0.88 oz (25 g) and has a length of 330 yds (300 m) which results in a lightweight garment from this soft and airy yarn.

A great project for all levels of knitters is the Ruffled Collar Pullover.  This ribbed sweater is an easy knit using the beautiful Superior Cashmere/Silk yarn. This sweater is knit loosely using a larger needle than normally required on a US #7 making this a fast knit project.  And, if the scrumptious yarn and the ease of the pattern didn't convince you, the pattern is sized from a 37 - 52 bust (94 - 132 cm)!   This is a gorgeous design and perfect to wear anywhere including fancy events, out to dinner, to work or just if you are in the mood to wear a lightweight sweater.  Entire garment is worked on one needle size - US 7 (4.5mm) 24 inches long and calls for 3-4 balls (3 balls for size 37 and 4 balls for remainder of sizes up to a 52 bust) of Filatura Di Crosa Superior Yarn in your favorite color.

More amazing  patterns from Filatura Di Crosa Superior Yarn are the Diamond Ruffled Scarf and the Lacy Sampler Scarf - each of which require only one ball of yarn!

The Diamond Ruffled scarf features a repeating pattern creating a light and airy accessory.  Finished scarf measures 72 inches long x 7 inches wide (183 x 18 cm) and this is a beautiful scarf made using only one ball of Superior Yarn.  This scarf calls for a US 6 (4 mm).

The Lacy Sampler Scarf is a great study in lace.  All lace knitters will enjoy this pattern which is both beautiful and the Superior yarn adds a beautifully soft yarn to the mix - you won't want to put it down!    New lace knitters will enjoy learning lace techniques while sampling the different stitch patterns and having a beautiful scarf as the outcome!  Scarf is knit on a US #7 (4.5 mm) needle.

Souk Self Striping Yarn Makes Beautiful Garments such as the Waves Shawlette and Fleur-de-Lis Mitts

Hello everyone!

Need some great ideas for a couple of quick projects?   Meet the Waves Shawlette and the Fleur-de-Lis Wristers.  

Have you met Souk yarn?   Souk yarn comes in awesome colors, and is a very cool silk and wool blend self-striping yarn.... and yes, it works up as a long self striping yarn.  Souk yarn is a blend of silk and wool to make a fabulous garment that is warm with drape. Bits of sari silk are sprinkled throughout making this yarn glow!

The Waves Shawlette is a quick to knit shawlette made from only one skein of Souk.   This shawlette is worked from the neck down and is worked to a beautiful lacy edge.   This shawlette can easily be lengthened using a second skein of yarn prior to adding the edging.

The Fleur-de-Lis Wristers are another beautiful project that work up fast using one skein of Souk.   The colors are yummy and will please both the knitter and the wearer.   Fleur-de-Lis Wristers are made quickly and easily with a simple garter stitch hand and an easy lace edge.

Garment of the Day - Quartz Cowl made with Yummy Berroco Flicker Yarn!

Hi Everyone!

For some fun and inspiration, here is our garment of the day!   The Quartz Cowl made with two skeins of the softest and squishiest yarn, Berroco Flicker.   The Quartz Cowl is designed by Andra Asars and is made quickly on US Size 10 Needles.   The pattern is a free download available on our website entitled Quartz Cowl.   We have fully restocked the available colors of Flicker yarns for your convenience.  This is a great gift cowl for someone enjoys soft and warm on their neck.  

Berroco Flicker yarn is an unbelievably soft yarn which has a surprise. Nestled in the lofty baby alpaca chainette is a soft, glittering tinsel-like filament. The metallic elements are matched to each shade (either silver or gold) and they are completely soft to the touch. The softness is due to the fiber blend of each skein:   87% Baby Alpaca, 8% Acrylic, and 5% Stellina.   Each skein is 187 yards and knits to a gauge of 20 sts to 4 inches on a US 9-10 needle.This cowl makes a great gift - just saying, it is never to early to start your Holiday knitting.

New Yarn, New Teacher, New Classes, and Extended Hours on Sunday

Hi Everyone!!!!

We have lots of NEW things for you to know about including yarn, classes, teachers and open hours. Let's start with our newest teacher - introducing (drum roll) - Theresa. Theresa is now teaching Sunday classes in our open project class from 12:30 to 2:30. Theresa, whom we fondly call T, loves all things knit and crocheted.... she especially likes to work on little tiny needles on beautiful lace designs - she is quite amazing. Call now for a seat in this new class on Sundays from 12:30 to 2:30 and start building your knitting foundation skills.

We have newly extended hours on Sundays - we now open at 10:00 on Sunday mornings! Star Cowl is Layers of Fun and a Free Knitting Hour for Newbies Who Want to Try Something New!

Hello Everyone!

New yarn and patterns are arriving daily and they are fun, fun, fun!   The Prism Star Cowl is so amazing!    Three pointy layers are made easily using either sock or worsted weight variegated or self-striping yarns.    The Star Cowl is a wonderful accessory to add to your wardrobe or a unique gift for someone special.   Directions are provided for either sock/fingering weight yarn or worsted weight yarn.   

The featured yarn for this cowl is Merino Mio Sock yarn or Symphony worsted weight yarn.   Merino Mia comes in 100% Superwash Merino 50 gram hanks in a variety of colors and has 190 yards per skein.    Symphony Yarn is a worsted weight 80% Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon which makes an amazing fabric that is soft and drapey.   Each 50 gram skein has 118 yards.   Cowl takes 4 skeins of Merino Mia or 5 skeins of Symphony yarn.    We have created project kits for this fun and beautiful cowl on the website in the colors that it is shown in - or choose your own favorite color.  All available colors are listed on our site.

Know someone who wants try knitting?   We have a FREE 1-Hour Learn to Knit this Sunday, March 16 in our new shop on 14 East Broadway, Derry, NH.    This free lesson is available for all newbie knitters who will learn to cast on and knit.   Class will run at 10:30 AM and again at 3:00 PM.   We look forward to seeing anyone who would like a chance to learn the very basics.      Bring your friends and family who always admire your work and should be knitting, but haven't yet.    Two trained instructors will be available for questions and help during the two sessions.   We look forward to sharing the joy of knitting and making more knitters in the world.
